Pocket watchin Cigarillos Excelsior dial version

A pocket watch based on the Modernista patent in the extremely rare Cigarillos Excelsior dial version, made by Courvoisier Frères in la-Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland, circa 1900. The numbered gold filled open faced case of this watch has an engine turned back with an empty cartouche in the center and a monogram MG. The extremely rare black dial, has a retrograde minute sector with Arabic numerals in the upper half, an aperture for jumping hours below 12 o’clock, a subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock and gold hands. Additionally the dial is engraved with Cigarrillos Excelsior and a monogram MG. The numbered movement has lever escapement, Geneva striping decoration and a jumping hour and retrograde minute mechanism.
The cuvette is engraved with Modernista Patent.

The version for ‘Cigarillos Excelsior’ is generally very rare and only a few examples with this signature are known. Another example with a black dial is not known.
