Ultra-thin open faced dress watch by Audemars Piguet
–
An exquisite and ultra-thin Swiss dress watch with a minute repeater, circa 1906. This watch was sold in 1908 to the British distributor of Audemars Piguet, Guignard & Co.
Polished round-shaped 18-carat gold case with hinged case back, and one horological complication: Minute-repeater on two steel gongs (activated by the slide at 9 o’clock). The gilt dial has blued Breguet radial hours, an outer minutes track, a subsidiary dial for the seconds, and blued Breguet hands. Rhodium-plated, keyless-winding, bridge movement with going barrel, straight-line lever escapement, compensated balance with gold and platinum poising screws and blued steel flat hairspring, adjusted Extra. The polished case creates an unusual and appealing high-contrast design. Accompanied by an extract from the Archives.
