Gold open faced verge watch
–
A Swiss low carat gold open faced pocket watch with a diamond set bezel, made by Terrot & Fazy, circa 1780. It features a hand wound mechanical movement with a verge escapement and fusee and chain system, signed Terrot & Fazy à Genève. The white porcelain enamel dial shows painted black Roman numerals for hours, outer Arabic numerals for minutes (5–60), a railway minute track, an off center winding square between 1 and 2 o’clock, and a classic ornate handset. The movement is swing out mounted in a round, solid, low carat gold open faced case. The outer bezel is decorated with small rose cut diamonds.
–
The reverse side is extensively adorned with detailed chased, engraved, and repoussé decoration, featuring a central cartouche with a bird surrounded by fine floral motifs, foliage scrolls, and decorative garlands, framed by an undulating border with textured leaf engravings. A high set fluted winding crown and an oval suspension bow on a hinged pendant stem complete the case.
