Pocket watch with two horological complications by Dubois & Fils
–
A fine, Swiss keyless-winding pocket watch with dead independent seconds, circa 1900.
Polished 14K pink gold round-shaped case. Enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes track, centre seconds, and original pear hands. Gilded brass movement with two going barrels, straight-line equilibrated lever escapement, compensated balance with gold poising screws and blued steel hairspring with a terminal curve. Two horological complications: – Dead independent seconds (exterior graduation with the central hand; activated by the single push-piece located on the winding-crown); – Two barrels with differential gears and bidirectional-winding inspired by Sylvain Mairet’s (1805-1890) works (1850/1855). Case signed.

The movement of this quality watch was probably made in the Vallée de Joux, in a workshop of the level of those of:
– Louis-Elisée Piguet (1836-1924), Le Brassus (Vallée de Joux).
– Emile-Victorin Piguet (1850-1937), Le Sentier (Vallée de Joux).
–
Independent seconds, large seconds-hand mounted at the centre of the dial, which beats seconds and can be stopped without stopping the watch movement itself.
