The LeCoultre family settled in Switzerland in the 16th century. Antoine LeCoultre founded a watchmaking workshop in Le Sentier in 1833. He invented the millionomètre and keyless system and, in 1866 established LeCoultre & Cie, the first watch manufacturer in the Vallée de Joux. They employed 500 people by 1870 and created over 350 different calibres by 1900. LeCoultre & Cie produced most of the movement blanks for Patek Philippe from 1902 to 1932. Today, the company’s manufacturing is still based in Le Sentier.
