A very fine and heavy Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased minute repeating lever pocket watch with perpetual calendar and moon phases made for the Indian market, circa 1900. Sold by the renowned British jeweller Hamilton & Co. Glazed bridge movement, two hammers, two gongs, a piston tooth lever escapement and screw compensation balance. White enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track, a fan shaped opening for the phases of the moon at 12, a retrograde date display underneath, sunk subsidiary seconds at 8, the months at 4 and an aperture for the days of the week at 6. The case is elaborately engraved and punched with floral and tendril decoration, the band, pendant and bow are decorated to match, a central blank cartouche on the front. Case numbered, movement signed by the retailer.

Hamilton & Co was founded in Calcutta, India in 1808 by British silversmith Robert Hamilton (1772-1848) under license from the East India Company. Robert Hamilton soon became a very wealthy and respected man. He opened further shops in other parts of India and became the best known and most respected British jeweller and silversmith in India, synonymous with style, class and quality. His business existed until 1973.
