Gold split seconds chronograph lever watch

A Swiss 18 carat yellow gold hunting cased split seconds chronograph pocket watch made by Paul Ditisheim in La Chaux-de-Fonds, early 20th century. This watch features a hand wound mechanical movement with lever escapement, spiral balance, and advance/delay adjustment racket, with the chronograph bridge signed Grand Prix Paris 1900. The white enamel dial, signed Paul Ditisheim Fabricant La Chaux-de-Fonds, displays Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, a railroad minute track with 1/5th of a second graduation, a double central hand for the split seconds function, Breguet style hands for the time, and two counters for the 60 minute and seconds indications. The round 18 carat yellow gold case features a guilloché back and cover. The inside of the case is marked DITI Grand Prix Paris 1900 and numbered. The gold cuvette bears an autograph signature, O. Gayaud.

Ditisheim (1868-1945) is recognised as one of Switzerland’s top watchmakers. He earned an honorary diploma from the watchmaking school in La Chaux-de-Fonds and is celebrated for his highly precise chronometers. His watches received numerous awards at various chronometry competitions held at the Observatory. Notably, he entered several watches in the Paris Grand Prix, including our example, which features the inscription “Grand Prix Paris 1900” on the movement.
