Gold open faced pocket watch by Vaucher Frères
–
A rare Swiss gentleman’s pocket watch with Bras en l’air indication and automaton, circa 1820. The watch features an 18-carat gold case with the case maker’s punch mark PHS. The dial is enamel and depicts a black-and-white floor with a perspective drawing. The left half of the dial displays Arabic minutes, while the right half shows Arabic hours. The applied figure of a young naked man wearing only a fig leaf is gilt. When the crown is pushed, the figure indicates the time with his arms. The figure is constantly moving, turning its head from side to side. The fire-gilt full plate movement has keywind, chain/fusee, solid movement pillars, a three-arm brass balance, a blued balance spring, and a finely engraved and pierced balance bridge with floral designs.
