A rare Swiss 18 Carat rose gold open faced grande sonnerie quarter repeating pocket watch with quarter hour/hour strike, circa 1820. Bridge movement, key wind, two hammers, two gongs, two barrels, a cylinder escapement and three arm gold ring balance. White enamel dial with Arabic hours, an outer minute track and heavy moon hands. An engine turned case with maker’s mark FVL, a slide to stop the repeater on the edge of the case and two further slides under the bezel to control the striking train.
Cuvette signed, case numbered.

Frédéric Louis de la Reussille came from a distinguished family of watchmakers in Tramelan, Switzerland. He was born on March 3rd, 1783. In addition to being a watchmaker, Frédéric Louis was also governor of the prefect, president of the vice court and judge of the district court. He died on December 1st, 1848 in Tramelan at the age of 65.
