Silver and gold open faced pocket watch by Vaucher Frères

A Swiss, museum like, large and elegant pocket watch in the style of Breguet with an original Morocco case, circa 1820. The watch features a silver and rose gold engine turned case with a monogram MG and blue enamel on the back. It has a gold cuvette and a silver engine turned dial with Roman numerals and blued steel hands. The watch is signed by Vaucher Frères. The key wind bridge movement is also signed and numbered. It has a large three arm balance and cylinder escapement.

Alfred Vaucher founded Vaucher Frères à Fleurier at Fleurier. After he died in 1840, the sons Alfred, Edouard and James-Henri continued the business and specialized in dealing in watches for the Chinese market. In 1843, they opened a branch in Kanton and another in Shanghai. Also, a ship’s chronometer dated around 1860 and signed “Vaucher Frères” is known.
