Metal lever watch with fine engraved case
–
A captain’s watch with compass and rare case engraving, probably made in Switzerland, circa 1850. This pocket watch, crafted from metal, features a numbered, extremely fine engraved case with gold edges, an engine turned and decoratively engraved cuvette with an opening for setting the hands and winding, marked Ancre, and small handles that can be folded out to set and wind the watch instead of using a key. The white enamel dial has Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track with half minute markers, subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock, a compass at 12 and steel moon hands. The bridge movement has an anker escapement.
