Breitling
Breitling was founded in 1884 by Léon Breitling in Saint-Imier, Switzerland, initially producing precision pocket watches and industrial counters. The company gained fame for its chronographs, later moving to La Chaux-de-Fonds and focusing on creating instruments for aviation, sports and science. Under Léon’s son, Gaston, and grandson, Willy, Breitling pioneered the modern chronograph and the first wrist worn chronograph.
–
The company still exists, but it primarily produces modern wristwatches. While its history includes making pocket chronographs, the company is now based in Grenchen and focuses on luxury chronometers for aviators and other timepieces. Breitling ceased production of pocket watches long ago to focus on its more popular and iconic wristwatches.
