Gold musical clockwatch with automaton and repeating
–
A fine and rare 18 carat gold musical clockwatch with automaton and repeating, circa 1820. The clockwatch features a gilt brass full plate movement with a going train, fixed barrel, revolving arbour, cylinder escapement, plain brass three arm balance, and flat balance spring with index regulator. It also includes a pinned disc musical train that drives the automaton lady playing the guitar and a striking train with a fixed barrel that strikes and repeats the hours and half hours on a gong. The striking can also be activated at will by a button on the pendant, and the striking work is located on the backplate.
–
The case features a polished bezel, a reeded band, an engine turned back with a sunburst pattern and polished border, and a hinged gilt metal cuvette. The white enamel dial includes an annular chapter ring with Breguet numerals, outer minute indexes, and a glazed engine turned silver centre with an applied varicoloured gold automaton scene. This scene depicts a lady playing the guitar, with her arm driven by the musical train, and a cupid driven by the repeating train, appearing to strike the hours on a bell. The clockwatch is completed with blued steel Breguet hands.

Automaton clock watches with a musical train are extremely rare, even more so when one of the automata is driven by the musical train and the other by the striking train.
