Pink gold open faced chronometer

A rare Swiss 18 carat pink gold open faced Observatory chronometer pocket watch made by Louis Brandt & Frère SA, circa 1920. The plain case has a monogram on the back. A chronometer DDR caliber movement fitted with 23 jewels, screwed gold chatons and a fine adjusting device. White enamel dial with black Arabic hours, outer minute divisions, red Arabic five minute numerals, subsidiary seconds and pink gold spade hands. Accompanied by the probably original presentation box with a dedication to Auguste Marchand 1920.

The abbreviation DDR indicates the highest quality level for Omega timepieces. Shown and described in “Omega, A Journey through Time” (2007) by Marco Richon. In his book, Marco Richon says about this caliber: “This extremely precise chronometer, with its extraordinarily fine workmanship, embodies the absolute best quality ever achieved in a factory at the turn of the century …”.
