Silver open faced lever watch
–
A Swiss silver open faced quarter repeating pocket watch, made by Grosjean & Cie in Geneva, circa 1900. This watch has a mechanical, manually wound movement with a lever escapement and a sliding quarter repeater mechanism. It strikes the hours and quarters on internal gongs via a slide on the caseband. The white enamel dial has black radiating Roman numeral hour markers and an outer minute track with Arabic numerals (5–60). There is a sunken subsidiary seconds dial at the 6 o’clock position and blued steel pear shaped hands. The silver circular case has a hinged back cover with a hand painted polychrome enamel miniature of a lioness. It opens to reveal the signature and movement serial number inscribed inside. The watch comes in its original dark brown leather fitted presentation box with a vibrant magenta satin lined interior cushion.
