A very rare Swiss, 18 carat gold and painted on enamel pocket watch decorated with a map of Turkey and the bordering countries, circa 1835. Made for the Turkish market. The bezel, band, pendant and bow are decorated with red and white champlevé enamel in a repeated pattern. The hinged and sprung back cover is decorated with a finely painted enamel map of Turkey, Greece, Romania, the Black Sea, the Mediterranean Sea, and other bordering countries. The border is decorated to match the bezel, which is a hinged gold cuvette. White enamel dial with radial Islamic numerals, outer minute track and gold Breguet hands. Matte gilt movement, Lepine calibre, eight jewels, cylinder escapement, plain three arm gilt balance, blued steel flat balance spring, index regulator. Dial with Arabic inscription, case numbered.
