Large silver open faced pocket watch
–
A remarkable and large Swiss verge pocket watch in a case that is lavishly studded with paste stones, circa 1750.
Silver case with paste stones, decorated with fine floral engraving and glazed movement. The bezels on the front and back are both studded with paste stones and the movement has been lavishly ornamented with screwed on, stone studded silver tendrils and a stylized crown. Enamel dial with Arabic hours, outer minute track and gold hands. Skeletonized, fine bridge movement with chain/fusee and three arm steel balance. The movement has a very unusual construction with star shaped covers that are arranged symmetrically to protect the fusee and the open barrel.
