An early, ultra-thin Swiss hunting cased pocket watch with independent jumping seconds mechanism “seconde morte”, circa 1843.
18 carat gold engine turned case with engraved monogram; white enamel dial with Roman hours, jumping centre seconds and gold Breguet hands; bridge movement and a gold screw compensation balance.

Jules Juergensen (1808-1877) was born in Le Locle 1808 as son of the watchmacker Urban Jürgensen (grandson of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet). In Kopenhagen Juergensen received his training in the watchmaking business of his family and in addition studied mathematics, astronomy and foreign languages. Shortly after the death of Jacques-Frédéric Houriet, Jürgensen went to Switzerland and opened a watch manufactory in Le Locle. His precision watches gained worldwide recognition.
