Unusual chronometer with center seconds

An unusual deck chronometer watch with center seconds, made by the Doxa Watch Company in le Locle, Switzerland, circa 1910. The case of this watch is crafted from brass and wood and features a special crown protection. The enamel dial features an outer center seconds track with 1/5th second division and red Arabic numerals, an hour track with black Arabic numerals and steel hands. The movement is equipped with a Doxa lever escapement and center seconds.
The dial is signed.

The history of Doxa, founded in Le Locle in 1889, is defined by its transition from a producer of high quality dress and pocket watches to a pioneer in the professional dive watch industry. The Company was founded in 1889 by Georges Ducommun at age 21 in Le Locle, Switzerland. The name “Doxa” is Greek for “glory”.
