Gold open faced repeater by Patek Philippe
–
A Swiss 18 carat gold open faced minute repeating pocket watch, circa 1919. Retailed by Tiffany & Co. in New York, U.S.A. The watch features an 18 ligne movement with a lever escapement. It has a gilt dial displaying Breguet style hour markers, an outer minute track, a sunk subsidiary seconds dial at 6 o’clock, and blued spade hands. The case is crafted from plain 18 carat yellow gold, with a personally inscribed cuvette reading Arthur from Bess February 26, 1921, and a monogrammed hinged back. Both the case and movement are signed by the maker and retailer, while the retailer signs the dial. Accompanying the watch is a Patek Philippe Extract from the Archives, confirming the date of sale as November 4, 1920, and noting that the original case was replaced with a Tiffany case bearing the number 174’95.
