A fine French, mahogany Chronostat III electric deck watch, in original fitted mahogany travelling box, circa 1970. Chronostat Deck Watch by L. Leroy & Cie., Paris, no. 2000, ATO Patent. Mahogany, rectangular case with a glazed lid. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals, outer minute track and subsidiary seconds. Blued steel alpha hands. A transistor controlled electrical impulse movement, chronometer pattern Guillaume balance, free sprung blued steel helical balance spring. Dial, case and movement signed.

The Chronostat III deck watches were tested for the first time with the new rules specially set out for battery powered chronometers. Eight Chronostat III deck watches were presented for the contest, six of which were successful and were bought by the Navy. Two others were accepted although not fully successful and had to be adjusted by the maker. Only two were refused.
