Gold verge for the Ottoman market

An English very fine gold triple cased verge pocket watch with quarter hour self strike for the Ottoman market, circa 1800.
Transport case is firegilt, tortoiseshell, sound holes, engraved band, large lateral hinge. The outer case is gold, repoussé decoration, fine flower and leaf scrolls “a quatre couleurs” around the edge, back with engraved military instruments and half moon, à goutte, large outer hinge. Inner case is gold, open work edge with lavish floral engraving, central engraving of sabre, fasces, Ottoman style plumed hat, palm and bay leaves, signed movement protection cap, rear bell. Enamel dial, radial Ottoman numerals, gold “Poker & Beetle”hands. Full plate movement, key wind, fire gilt, applied floral decorations, signed, chain/fusee, 2 hammers, 2 barrels, solid moulded movement pillars, three arm brass balance, florally engraved, pierced balance cock.

Daniel de Saint Leu (active 1753-1797) Of Genevan origin. He worked in Geneva and London as a watchmaker to the Queen in 1765, Saint Leu was renowned for very fine enamelled and varicoloured gold clockwatches set with diamonds and precious stones, and repeating watches for the Turkish and Islamic markets. He also made a magnificent silver mounted clock for the Court of Spain. Although de Saint Leu himself was only active until about 1797, the company continued to make watches under his name for roughly another 15 years.
