Gold open faced verge watch

A fine and unusual Swiss 18 carat gold open faced quarter repeating pocket watch with wandering hours and minutes, circa 1820. The case band with a star and lozenge repeated pattern, the back engine turned in a swirling pattern with a central vacant cartouche, master mark DP and a hinged gilt cuvette.

 

The gold dial is engraved with Cupid standing on top of the globe, his arrow tip forming the minute pointer, another figure above in a quadriga holding an arrow to indicate the hours, classical architecture on each side, a fan shaped aperture for the wandering numerals with Roman hours and Arabic five minutes. Frosted gilt full plate movement, fusee with chain, verge escapement, brass three arm balance, blued steel flat balance spring, engraved two footed cock with polished steel end plate and regulation dial in the center.
