–
A small Swiss silver and enamel open faced keyless cylinder watch featuring an engraved scene of St. George and the Dragon, circa 1883. The watch features a mechanical movement with a cylinder escapement. The chased silver dial showcases foliated scrolls, white enamel oval cartouches with radial Roman numerals, an outer white enamel minute track, and Louis XV style hands. The silver case is chased with foliage and rockery decoration, with the back depicting Saint George slaying the Dragon and an interior scene representing Christ in a boat on a rough sea, alongside the words Intempestas Secvritas. These two associated scenes were generally intended to protect travellers, especially pilgrims. The inner bowl is signed Patek Philippe & Co. This watch is accompanied by an extract from the archives of the Patek Philippe firm, indicating the year of manufacture, 1883.
