A rare English gilt brass single handed oval puritan verge pendant watch, circa 1620-1740. A later, custom-made, full plate oval-shaped movement from around 1740 with applied floral decorations, chain and fusee, verge escapement, three-arm brass balance. Brass engraved dial with Roman hours and a brass hand. Plain case. Movement signed.

Because of its simple appearance which is supposed to be in character with Puritan austerity, this watch is an excellent example of the so-called ‘Puritan’ watch style of the 17th century in England.
