An English silver pair-cased one-handed verge pocket watch, circa 1680. Full plate movement, chain and fusee, large three-arm brass balance. Silver champlevé dial with Roman hours, the centre with chased decoration and a single hand. Both cases are plain. Movement signed.

Because of the French name and the London designation, it is assumed that Jean Barenet was a Huguenot refugee. He is not listed as a member of the Clockmakers’ Company and the design of the movement implies that it is originally Dutch.
