An ornamental English silver triple cased verge pocket watch made for the Ottoman market, circa 1816. Full plate movement, key wind, chain and fusee, three arm steel balance. White enamel dial with Ottoman numerals and polychrome enamel floral decoration in the center. A silver transport case covered with tortoiseshell, decorated with studs, a plain outer case and the inner case also made of silver with maker’s mark IB.
Dial signed, movement signed and numbered.

Ralph Gout (circa 1770-1836) was a native of Switzerland who lived and worked in London. He was known as a skilled maker and had his workshop at 6, Norman Street, Old Street in London. He was bankrupt in 1796 but managed to get his business back up and going. He produced many timepieces and also pedometers for the Spanish market as well as the Indian market.
