Rose gold full hunter by Matthew Dutton Jr

A rare and early English 18 carat rose gold hunting cased cylinder pocket watch, circa 1803. Full plate movement, chain and fusee and a three arm steel balance. Off-white enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track and spade & whip hands. The plain case with an engraved, presumably, Scottish clan coat of arms on the front. Dust cap and movement signed and numbered.

Matthew Dutton Jr, son of Matthew Dutton, was listed in London from 1799 and was with the Clockmakers’ Company from 1815. His grandfather William Dutton completed an apprenticeship as a watchmaker with George Graham in 1738. In 1746 he became a member of the Clockmakers’ Company. From 1759 he worked as a partner of Thomas Mudge.
