Only 37 gold watches with a carrousel were made by A. Lange & Söhne. Carrousel watches are an invention of the Dane B. Bonniksen, who applied for a patent in England in 1892. With his invention, he wanted to find a middle ground between an expensive tourbillon and a normal chronometer. He even achieved better results with his carrousel watches than others with a tourbillon. In 1899, Richard Lange further improved his concept and received utility model protection DRGM 121267 (a utility model protection of the German Reich).
