Gold enamelled verge in triple cases

A fine and important English 18 carat gold and enamel triple cased pocket watch made for the Islamic market by Markwick Markham, Hallmarked for 1813. The gilded brass full plate movement with a verge escapement, pierced and engraved Egyptian pillars, fusee with chain, a plain steel three arm balance, flat balance spring, and gilt brass cock pierced and engraved with a star, a crescent and scrolled foliage.

 

White enamel dial with Turkish numerals, minute divisions and gold poker & beetle. The scalloped outer case is glazed on both sides, both bezels with gold, red, green and white champlevé enamel flowers on a pink ground and concentric translucent red enamel decoration, the second case also with a scalloped band, both bezels with translucent red enamel and concentric floral champlevé decoration on a turquoise enamel ground, the back with a rose cut diamond and emerald set, and central chased military trophies on a red engine turned ground, an inner case with champlevé enamelled bezels, painted military trophies against red translucent enamel on the back, and outer pierced and champlevé enamelled foliage decoration.

 

Dial and back plate signed, movement numbered.
