Gold rare pocket watch
–
A very fine and rare English 20 carat gold pair cased pocket watch with date and protective case made by George Weldon in London, London Hallmarked for 1754-1755. Gilt full plate movement, ∅ 35 mm, with square baluster pillars, fusee and chain, a verge escapement, three arm balance with flat spring, pierced and engraved balance clock with single foot and silvered regulation dial. Gold dial with champlevé Roman hours, an outer arcaded minute track and Arabic five minute numerals, an aperture for the date and original blued steel hands. The repoussé outer case with a scene depicting Penelope and the suitors within a rococo scroll border, and a bezel decorated to match, a polished inner case with London Hallmarks for 1754-1755, and a further gilt metal shagreen covered protective case. Dial signed, movement signed and numbered.
