Gold watch with date and outer protective case

A fine English 18 carat gold pair cased pocket watch with date and outer protective case made by George Weldon in London, circa 1754-1755. The gilt finished verge movement with chain and fusee, and a finely pierced and engraved balance cock and foot. Gold dial with champlevé Roman hours, an outer arcaded minute track and Arabic five minute numerals, an aperture for the date and blued steel hands. A plain inner case, the repoussé outer case depicting Penelope and the Suitors and a gilt leather covered pin work decorated outer protective case. Dial and movement signed, case stamped DP and with London date letter for 1754-1755.
