Open faced pocket watch by G. Graham & Colley

An English, 22K yellow gold pair-cased open faced key-winding pocket watch, circa 1755-1756 and 1757-1758.
Movement with fusee and chain and early cylinder escapement (brass wheel). Enamel dial with Roman radial hours, outer minutes track with Arabic five minutes numerals, and Fleur-de-Lys hands. Round-shaped 22K yellow gold polished case with case number 6 618 (by S G, Solomon Gibbs or Stephen Goujon, London; London letter-date for 1755-1756, inner case; London letter-date for 1757-1758, outer case). Movement and dust cap signed.

Colley, Thomas, London
Thomas Colley was Graham’s apprentice and successor, along with Samuel Barkley, Graham’s foreman. From 1754 he worked alone. The present watch must be one of the first made following Graham’s death. Colley died in 1771.
