Rare German 18 carat gold half hunting cased quality 1A pocket watch made by A. Lange in Dresden, circa 1871. The ¾ plate movement with a piston tooth lever escapement and gold screw compensation balance. White enamel dial with Roman hour numerals, an outer minute track, sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock and blued double spade hands. The smooth case with an inlaid blue enamel Roman chapter on the front, reeded band and monogram UH on the reverse. Dial signed A. Lange Dresden, case numbered, cuvette and movement numbered and signed A. Lange & Söhne Dresden, movement and case with matching numbers.

The Glashütte sunburst, which was common from the 1870s onwards, was not yet used in this work. The steel winding wheels were painted brown for corrosion protection.
