Silver open faced cylinder watch

A museum quality German silver open faced center seconds pocket watch made by Brüder Hahn in Stuttgart in the 1800s. The key wind full plate movement with an open barrel, cylinder escapement, large, five arm brass balance, large, pierced central balance bridge decorated with foliage and a rooster, and an engraved regulating scale. White enamel regulator dial with radial hours, minutes, quarter hour numerals and gold arrow hands at 12 o’clock, an outermost chapter ring with seconds and half second divisions including as well as Arabic quarter hours and a central blued second hand. The plain case with maker’s mark IFB. Dial signed, case numbered, movement signed and numbered.

The Hahn brothers, Christian Gottfried (* 1769) and Christoph Matthäus (1767-1833), worked in the workshop of their father Philipp Matthäus Hahn in Onstmettingen, Kornwestheim and Echterdingen. Christian Gottfried and Christoph Matthäus became court mechanics (court purveyors) in Stuttgart. Christian Gottfried was later noted in Berlin and in America.
