Gold hunting cased key wind watch

An extremely rare Swiss 18 carat gold hunting cased pocket chronometer made by Girard Perregaux SA in La Chaux-de-Fonds, circa 1900. The 4/5 plate key wind movement with a rocker chronometer escapement, bimetallic chronometer balance with two regulating nuts, two screws and two trapezoidal weights, blued, rare spherical ball hairspring and chatoned diamond endstone on balance. White enamel dial with Roman hours, an outer minute track with fifth of a second divisions and Arabic five minute numerals, sunk subsidiary seconds and blued fleur-de-lys-hands. The engine turned case features an elaborately engraved star ornament with monogram on the front. Dial signed, case numbered twice, movement signed and numbered.

In 1852, the Swiss watchmaker Constantin Othenin Girard founded the company Girard & Cie in La Chaux-de-Fonds. In 1856, he married the sister of chronometer maker Henri Perregaux, Marie Perregaux, and in the same year, together with his brother-in-law, he founded the Girard-Perregaux manufacture in La Chaux-de-Fonds.
