Gold open faced automaton
–
An important and large figure automaton with striking mechanism on a bell made in France, circa 1800. The numbered 18 carat gold case of this watch encloses an exceptionally rare automaton featuring a striking mechanism on a visible bell and its face is adorned with multi coloured gold Jacquemarts, presenting a highly uncommon depiction of Chronos, the god of time. The small white enamel dial has Arabic hour numerals, outer minute divisions and steel Breguet hands. The movement, fitted with an extremely fine verge escapement, repeats the hours and quarters hours.
