The watch is of museum quality and was probably made for a customer in the Ottoman Empire. Both the case decoration and the movement indicate this. Frères Oltramare made the cases of some of the most important Geneva gold and enamel pocket watches for the Chinese and Ottoman market. The movements were mostly made by Piguet Meylan. The dial of this watch and the hands also correspond to well-known watches of this origin.
