–
A German silver open faced verge pocket watch with connection to David Roentgen’s workshop, circa 1770. Early, splendidly engraved verge movement, worm gear, cock with grotesque face. White enamel dial with Roman hours and Arabic minutes, original hands. Case back florally engraved, high-quality case with five-part hinge, master’s punch RB with crown, and an intricate mechanism to open and close the opening for the winding by a little slider.

The watch was originally part of the clocks and watches collection Landrock. Preudhomme was first mentioned in connection with Roentgen’s workshop in 1776. A small watch by Roentgen is part of the David Collection in Copenhagen and is also signed by Preudhomme. Interesting is the signature with the location ‘BERLIN’. Most of the manufacturer’s watches are signed Neuwied.
