Most pocket watches with rack lever escapement have silver cases. In this heavy gold version they are very rare. John Whitehurst, headquartered in Derby and London, is listed in the literature as ‘Eminant Maker’.
He founded the company Whitehurst & Son together with his son in 1805 and signed his watches with this signature until 1846. The company was one of the competitors for the Big Ben Westminster clock!
