A very early English silver and lacquered metal pair-cased single-handed verge pocket watch with alarm, circa 1686-1689. Early English movement, extraordinary pillars, very early hairspring also decorated with flowers and birds, two barrels, one for the movement and one for the alarm, alarm barrel pierced. Silver champlevé dial with Roman hours, inner decorated brass alarm disc, iron hands. Silver and lacquered metal outer case, sound openings, silver inner case, pierced, the back with a relief depicting putti, birds, cornucopias, various mythical creatures, richly decorated with tendrils and flowers, bell. Movement signed.
