Gold and enamel pendant form watch

An extremely rare Austrian 18 carat gold and enamel Oriëntal harp form pendant watch, circa 1820. Verge movement. The back has a concealed watch under the spring lid, a white enamel dial with Arabic hours and outer minute divisions, and small filigree Breguet hands. Case in the shape of an Oriëntal harp, engine-turned, the front with red, blue and white enamel, the back with blue translucent enamel, showing a music sheet, the rims black enamelled, a very lifelike representation of the musical instrument down to the smallest details, view to the balance wheel on the front, which is hidden under the strings.

Only one other, nearly identical piece is known. Among the relatively common mandolins, lutes and lyre, the Oriental harp is very rare.
