Gold enamelled Oriëntal harp shaped watch
–
An extremely rare enamelled Oriëntal harp form watch made by Le Roy in Vienna and Paris, circa 1820. This watch was crafted from gold, is decorated with polychrome enamel and bears Vienna gold hallmarks. Both the original suspension and the case are fantastically enamelled, the hinged back with a purple camaïeu painting showing putti motifs and a view to the balance, the front with a representation of a sheet of music. The white enamel dial has Arabic hour numerals, outer minute divisions and moon hands. The signed movement has a verge escapement.

Total length: 550 mm

–
These form watches in the shape of an Oriëntal harp were made in Vienna, Austria. In some cases, Viennese movements were used, but more often French movements by well known manufacturers. Only very rarely the original suspension with brooch is still present.

Camaïeu
Camaïeu is a technique that employs two or three tints of a single colour, other than grey, to create a monochromatic image without regard to local or realistic colour.

Putto
A putto (plural: putti) is a figure in a work of art depicted as a chubby male child, usually naked and very often winged. Originally limited to profane passions in symbolism, the putto came to represent a sort of baby angel in religious art, often called a cherub (plural: cherubim), though in traditional Christian theology, a cherub is one of the most senior types of angel.

Signed: Le Roy Paris
