Gold cylinder pocket watch
–
A French 18 carat yellow gold open faced keyless pocket watch, made by Rouhet in Paris, circa 1820. An engine turned case back, with, in the center a circle, and a gilded metal cuvette. One horological complication: Quarter repeater by two hammers on two steel gongs, activated by depressing the pendant, safety bolt locking the repeater’s functions, slide located on the case band at 1 o’clock. White enamel dial, with suspended Breguet numerals, outer minute track and blued steel Breguet hands.
–
A gilded brass movement, going barrel, cylinder escapement, silvered brass monometallic balance and blued steel flat hairspring, blued steel index regulator with temperature compensating bimetallic curb and parechute; repeater work on the main plate, under the dial; additional and added keyless winding mechanism, a kind of folding key made of blued steel directly positioned on the barrel shaft with a ratchet to be able to be properly repositioned in the cuvette which has been drilled for this purpose, the Maltese cross stop being preserved, with a folding time setting key acting directly on the centre wheel made in the same way, transformations probably dating from the middle of the 19th century. Signature on the cuvette.
