A very large Austrian enamelled pear shaped verge pendant watch, circa 1820. Hinged, fire-gilt verge movement. White enamel dial with Arabic numerals and outer minute divisions, rose gold hands. Case in the form of a pear, enamelled inside and outside, the enamel paintings on the outside in the manner of Watteau, Vienna, silver mounting, the inside with landscape scene.

Probably from Vienna. Very rare size and rare Rococo scenes. Most of the form watches are smaller.

Jean Antoine Watteau, better known as Antoine Watteau, was born in Valencijn on October 10, 1684, and died in Nogent-sur-Marne on July 18, 1721. He was a French painter of the rococo period. Watteau’s place of birth was conquered by the French in 1678.
