A very fine English 18 carat rose gold open faced pocket watch with Pennigton chronometer balance, London Hallmarked 1812. Earnshaw spring detent escapement, Pennington’s Double-L chronometer balance, diamond endstone, helical hairspring, screwed gold chatons. White enamel dial with Roman hours and outer minute divisions, subsidiary seconds, rose gold hands. Plain case, case maker’s punch IM. Dial signed and numbered, case and movement with matching numbers, movement signed.

John Barwise was one of the leading watchmakers in London and one of only a few watchmakers to serve as a judge on the ‘Board of Longitude’ comparison of John Arnold and Thomas Earnshaw’s chronometer.
