Silver repeating repoussé watch by James Rousseau

A fine, large English silver pair cased half-quarter repeating repoussé verge pocket watch, circa 1740-1750. Verge movement with rare repeating mechanism, striking the hours, quarter hours and half-quarter hours. The dust cap is missing. Very fine silver champlevé dial with Roman hours and Arabic five minutes, blued steel hands. The outer case with mythological repoussé scene with Roman soldiers, the inner case is pierced and florally engraved, bell. Dial and movement signed.

It can be assumed that James Rousseau came from the prestigious Rousseau watchmaking dynasty in Geneva and later worked in London. He was definitely recorded in London from 1743, last mentioned around 1760.
