A rare silver open faced lever pocket watch, a graduate’s piece made by a former teacher of the German Watchmaking School Glashütte, circa 1882. 3/4 Plate movement, lever escapement, monometallic screw compensation balance. Two-tone enamel dial with black Arabic hours, red Arabic five-minute numerals and sunk subsidiary seconds at 6 o’clock. Silver case, monogrammed ES. Dial signed, case numbered.

The Deutsche Uhrmacherschule (German Watchmaking School) in Glashütte was established on May 1st, 1878 by watchmaker Moritz Groβman (born on March 27th, 1826 in Dresden – died January 23rd, 1885 in Leipzig). It educated apprentices until 1942.
