Illinois Springfield Watch Company, American watch manufacture

The Illinois Springfield Watch Company was founded in Springfield, Illinois, in 1869 by John C. Adams, John T. Stuart, John Williams, William B. Miller, John W. Bunn, George Black, and George Passfield. As early as 1872, the company began producing the first pocket watches, which still had a key winder at that time. From 1872 to 1905, the Illinois Springfield Watch Company also used the “Stuart”, “Miller”, and “Bunn” signatures. Railroad watches in “Railroad Quality” were made after Bunn and named “Bunn Special”.
–
From 1875 crown-wound watches were also part of the production line of the Illinois Springfield Watch Company. In 1879 the company ran into financial difficulties and had to be reorganized. Along with this, the name was changed to Springfield Illinois Watch Company. In 1885 the company was renamed the Illinois Watch Company. In 1927 the company was taken over by Hamilton, but production continued under the old name until 1932. In 1933, the Illinois Watch Company factory ceased production. Hamilton manufactured Illinois Watch Company watches in its factory until 1939. The railway clock series “Sangamo Special”, manufactured in 1911, is particularly worth mentioning. There were five different models of the Sangamo Special, Model 5, 8, 9, 10 and 13. Other cases were used “First Model” (5) in 1911, Pyramid Bow 1919 (10) and Model 10 in 1921, Stiff Bow in 1925, Rigid Bow in 1927, and Model 193 in 1931. All three are in the 13 version.

Signed: Illinois Sterling
