The rims on the back and front are finely engraved; the back shows an exquisite opaque polychrome enamel medallion: a young man on a lavishly decorated horse bending down to a woman scantily clad in a shawl. The man’s clothing appears to be medieval. A spa temple can be recognized in the background; the scene is signed E. V. in the bottom-left corner.
Polished 14-carat gold case, push back with fine polychrome enamel painting. Signed silvered dial with radial Arabic numerals, outer minutes track, subsidiary dial for the seconds, and gold hands. Signed bridge movement, Breguet hairspring, four adj., seventeen jewels, screw compensation balance.

Gothic Watch Co., American watch brand – watch manufacturer.
The Gothic Watch Co. was located in New York City at number 37, West 57th Street. The company was founded in 1925 and registered. Their product: small watches, namely those that could take a beating – the term “Jar-Proof” was coined parallel to the brand name “Gothic Watch Co.” registered, and a year later the name “Gothic Jar-Proof Watch” was even registered. To prove to the amazed public how robust these watches were, one is said to have been thrown onto the pavement from an eleven-story high-rise building and survived this treatment – it is said to have run flawlessly afterwards. (If this endurance test actually took place, it may have been the model for the successful Timex advertising of the 1950s and 1960s. ) So what was the secret of this watch that allowed it to survive such a violent impact unscathed? The “Gothic Jar-Proof Watch Co.” was still Based in New York in 1960.
